Tips To Stay In Shape While On Vacation
Going on vacation can create a bit of a problem if you're trying to stay in shape. After all, you're taking a vacation from work, not necessarily your workout. You might be afraid that you'll lose a lot of the gains you've made during the week or two that you're away. Before you leave for your vacation destination, here are some tips to help you plan so that you can stay in shape, and when you return you won't feel as if you're starting over.
Tip 1: Choose a Hotel Close to Walking Trails
When making your hotel reservations, ask the front desk clerk if there is a walking trail connected to the hotel or at least nearby.
When creating your itinerary, schedule some time to go for a walk, and don't forget to pack your walking gear; water bottle, walking shoes and outdoor attire.
Tip 2: Use a Motion and Calorie App
If you have a smartphone, download the appropriate app to help you keep track of your movement, calorie expenditures and calorie intake. You might find that you get a lot of movement in throughout the day during your vacation activities--especially if you're visiting a theme park where there is a lot of walking involved.
Track every bit of food that you eat on the app so you don't go over your daily caloric intake requirements. Since you are on vacation, it's okay to splurge a little here and there, but you'll want to keep a close eye on what you're eating so you don't go too far overboard.
Tip 3: Plan Time to Use the Gym
There is no doubt that you're going to have a busy vacation schedule. So, plan an extra hour each morning to get in a workout at the hotel's gym. If an hour is unrealistic, schedule a half an hour, because even this small amount is better than none at all.
If the hotel does not have a gym, pack a bathing suit and get a few vigorous laps in at the pool. If that's not an option, run up and down the stairs a few times. The goal is to get your heart rate pumping, and to help you feel better about missing your normal workouts.
The key to staying in shape while on vacation is to plan for it. It won't take a lot of time out your fun and relaxation. When you make the proper plans and preparations, you won't come home feeling guilty because you neglected to keep up your gains while you were taking a vacation from work.
